Today is Throwback Thursday so let’s indulge in one of my favorite vacation and long weekend spots in Europe. Capri!
Capri is an island off the Sorrentine peninsula and the Amalfi coast. Getting there is quite easy : from the international airport in Naples, take the bus to the port, and then catch a speedboat from Naples to Capri. You may stop over in Ischia or lovely Procida (see later posts) but Capri is our main destination today.
From France, Capri is far away enough for a holiday and close enough for a quick getaway.
Since the latter half of the 19th century, Capri is heavily visited by tourists but only a few stay on the island. So when the last shuttle boat leaves the island, the island finally is mine and I feel I am, at last, in an exclusive relationship. Capri makes me feel more vibrant and very privileged.
Several reasons I highly recommend Capri. It is a very sophisticated beauty. There is something for everyone : great shopping, gorgeous sightseeing, farniente of course, a nice beach, good sailing and great food. As I am partial to all of the above, Capri is perfect for me.
I must also confess I am obsessed with the Dolce & Gabbana Ad for the perfume Light Blue :
It’s hilarious that David Gandy has a different lover in each of the advertisements, always in the same little boat in the same beautiful inlet by the sea. He’s also wearing the same underwear each time, but we’re going to avoid thinking about that in too much detail.
So this is my feeble attempt to get closer to David!
And here is another view of the Faraglioni, the legendary trio.
I love wearing a kimono over my bathing suit.
There is nothing happening in the evenings…
Focus on what matters.
Fighting the crowds away.
Bear in silence lemon droppings on my dinner plate.
Sulk and hide in the Grotta Verde…
Or the Grotta di Matromonia…
So yes, there are plenty of activities but if I ever get bored :
I may go for a little walk. Ok, it is not an easy walk and breathtaking in at least two ways.
I may even get a pick at the Casa Malaparte featured in the Brigitte Bardot, Le Mépris, in which Brigitte Bardot gives a great lesson of seduction, inspiring Chanel in an ad.
Or spend some time at the Villa San Michele and the Axel Munthe museum…
… …and lust over the flowerbeds.
So yes, Capri is a great place to chill out, party with friends, or just propose to your fiancée.
